What is Urine Bacteria, Automated?
Urine bacteria (automated) is a count of bacterial cells in your urine, measured by an automated analyzer rather than by manual microscopy or traditional culture.
The analyzer uses flow cytometry or digital imaging to rapidly count and classify particles in your urine sample, including bacteria, white blood cells, and red blood cells. Results are typically reported as the number of bacteria per microliter of urine.
This screening test helps determine whether a full urine culture is needed. It does not, on its own, diagnose a urinary tract infection (UTI) or identify the specific type of bacteria present.
Where Does Urine Bacteria, Automated Come From?
Bacteria detected in urine most commonly originate from the gastrointestinal tract (especially Escherichia coli) and enter the urinary tract through the urethra. Less often, bacteria may reach the urinary system through the bloodstream.
