What is Beef IgG?

Beef IgG measures the level of immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies directed against beef proteins in your blood. IgG is the most abundant antibody class in the body and plays a central role in the adaptive immune response.

Food-specific IgG antibodies are produced when your immune system encounters dietary proteins during normal digestion. Their presence generally reflects exposure to and immunological processing of that food, rather than an allergic reaction.

This test is distinct from beef IgE testing, which measures antibodies involved in immediate-type (Type I) allergic reactions such as hives, swelling, or anaphylaxis. Beef IgG is sometimes ordered as part of food sensitivity panels used in integrative and functional medicine.

Where Does Beef IgG Come From?

Beef-specific IgG antibodies are produced by plasma cells (mature B cells) in gut-associated lymphoid tissue, including Peyer's patches in the small intestine, and in regional lymph nodes after dietary beef proteins are sampled and processed by the immune system.
