Aspergillus fumigatus Antibody, IgG Unit Converter

This test measures the level of IgG antibodies in your blood that are directed against the fungus Aspergillus fumigatus. IgG antibodies are produced by your immune system in response to prolonged or repeated exposure to the fungus, and elevated levels suggest a sustained immune reaction.

Aspergillus fumigatus is a common mold found in soil, decaying vegetation, and indoor and outdoor air. Humans inhale its microscopic spores daily. In most people, the immune system clears these spores without issue. However, in individuals with underlying lung disease or an overactive immune response, the fungus can cause a range of conditions from allergic reactions to chronic infections.

Nearly everyone has low levels of Aspergillus IgG from routine environmental exposure. It is significantly elevated levels that become clinically meaningful and may indicate an allergic or infectious condition.

IgG antibodies against Aspergillus fumigatus are produced by plasma cells (mature B lymphocytes) throughout the body, primarily in the lymph nodes, spleen, and mucosal tissues of the respiratory tract. Their production is triggered when the immune system recognizes fungal antigens after prolonged or repeated inhalation of Aspergillus spores.
