Cladosporium herbarum IgG measures immunoglobulin G antibodies in your blood that are specific to the mold Cladosporium herbarum. These antibodies develop when your immune system has been repeatedly or chronically exposed to this mold and has mounted a sustained response to it.

Cladosporium herbarum is one of the most common molds found worldwide, both indoors and outdoors. It thrives on damp surfaces, decaying plant material, soil, and indoor areas with poor ventilation or moisture problems.

Unlike IgE antibodies, which drive immediate allergic reactions such as sneezing or hives, IgG antibodies reflect a slower, sustained immune response linked to prolonged antigen exposure. Elevated mold-specific IgG is used primarily to evaluate for hypersensitivity pneumonitis, a type of inflammatory lung disease caused by repeated inhalation of organic antigens. A positive result confirms immunological sensitization but does not by itself diagnose disease.

IgG antibodies are produced by plasma cells, which are mature B lymphocytes found in lymph nodes, the spleen, and bone marrow. When Cladosporium spores are inhaled and processed by the immune system, B cells that recognize the mold antigen are activated, undergo class switching, and differentiate into plasma cells that secrete antigen-specific IgG into the bloodstream.
