Uric Acid/HDL Cholesterol Ratio Unit Converter

The Uric Acid/HDL Cholesterol Ratio (UHR) is a calculated biomarker that divides your serum uric acid level by your HDL ("good") cholesterol level. It combines a marker of oxidative stress and purine metabolism (uric acid) with a marker of cardiovascular protection (HDL cholesterol) into a single number.

A higher ratio indicates that uric acid is elevated relative to HDL cholesterol, reflecting a shift toward greater metabolic stress and reduced antioxidant protection. The ratio is expressed either as a decimal (e.g., 0.12) or as a percentage (e.g., 12%).

Reference thresholds differ by sex, with men typically tolerating a higher ratio than women. This sex difference reflects the influence of estrogen on uric acid excretion and the generally higher HDL cholesterol levels seen in women.

The UHR is calculated from two separate blood measurements. Uric acid is the final breakdown product of purine metabolism, produced mainly by the liver. HDL cholesterol is synthesized by the liver and intestines and functions as a scavenger that transports excess cholesterol back to the liver for disposal.
