5α,3α-Androstanediol (also called 3α-diol) is a metabolite of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the most potent androgen in the body. Measuring it in urine provides an indirect window into how much DHT activity is occurring in peripheral tissues such as skin, hair follicles, and the prostate.

The result is corrected for creatinine (reported as µg/g creatinine) to account for differences in urine concentration between samples. This makes spot or dried urine collections comparable to 24-hour collections.
