Allopregnanediol, Urine Creatinine Ratio Unit Converter

Allopregnanediol (5α-pregnane-3α,20α-diol) is a urinary metabolite of allopregnanolone, which itself is a neurosteroid derived from progesterone. Measuring allopregnanediol in urine provides an indirect way to assess how much allopregnanolone the body is producing.

This test reports allopregnanediol corrected for urinary creatinine concentration, which accounts for differences in urine dilution between samples. This allows a simple spot or dried urine collection rather than a full 24-hour collection.

Allopregnanediol is an isomer of pregnanediol and sits at the end of the progesterone alpha-metabolism pathway: progesterone is converted to 5α-dihydroprogesterone by 5α-reductase, then to allopregnanolone by 3α-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase, and finally to allopregnanediol by 20α-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase.

Allopregnanediol is produced when progesterone is metabolized through the alpha pathway, primarily in the brain, adrenal glands, ovaries (women), and testes (men). It is then excreted in the urine.
