Corticosterone, Urine Creatinine Ratio Unit Converter

Corticosterone is a steroid hormone produced by the adrenal glands. It belongs to the glucocorticoid family, the same class as cortisol, though it circulates at much lower concentrations in humans.

This marker measures corticosterone in urine, corrected for creatinine to account for differences in urine concentration. The creatinine correction ensures that hydration status does not skew the result.

Corticosterone serves primarily as a precursor to aldosterone, the body's main mineralocorticoid. It also has weak glucocorticoid activity of its own and contributes to the overall stress hormone profile alongside cortisol.

Corticosterone is produced in the zona fasciculata and zona glomerulosa of the adrenal cortex, where pregnenolone is converted to progesterone, then to deoxycorticosterone, and finally to corticosterone via the enzyme 11-beta-hydroxylase.
